Meder Nello Day celebrated

ITANAGAR, Mar 2: The sixth foundation day of Apatani Meder Nello was celebrated with pomp and gaiety at Dree ground, Pappu Nalah on February 28 last.

Indigenous Faith and Cultural Society of Arunachal Pradesh president Nabam Atum, who attended the function as chief guest exhorted the believers of indigenous faiths in the state to preserve and protect the age old culture and tradition of indigenous people of Arunachal Pradesh for posterity.

APIDFC managing director, Tony Koyu, who was the guest of honour advised the followers of Donyi Polo and other indigenous groups in the state to live a disciplined life and have full faith in their belief.

A compilation on Dree mythology of Apatanis and a book on nurturing indigenous faith of Arunachal Pradesh authored by Gyati Rana were also released on the occasion. Earlier, Narang Tani, chairman, Meder Nello Council appealed to all believers to respect other’s religions too and learn to live in harmony.

The celebration was marked by colourful cultural display by Meder Nello members and prayer for universal peace.

Khunjuju inspects projects under Nafra circle

ITANAGAR, Mar 2: Parliamentary secretary, Hydro Power Development and Bomdila MLA R T Khunjuju has an intensive tour to Nafra circle on Feb 27.

During his tour Khunjuju has inspected the Kajalang MHS (2x1000KW) being executed under Prime Minister Package. He also inspected the progress of PMGSY scheme executed by RWD department from Nafra to Kajalong and Steel Bridge over river Kajalong funded under BADP. Emphasising the power crisis and communication bottleneck of the area he exhorted the officers of the department concerned to complete the targeted schemes in time.

He was accompanied by EAC Nafra, SE DHPD Bomdila and concerned district head of Department, according to an official release.

Education policy soon: Siram

Yingkiong, Mar 2: Education Minister Bosiram Siram visited Katan, Geku, Yingkiong, Simong and Mariyang on Feb 25. He was accompanied by JK Panggeng, Parliamentary Secretary (Fishery, Legislative, Law & Justice), MLA Alo Libang, i/c DC Upper Siang Rajesh Panyang, officers and public leaders.

At Katan Circle HQ, Siram inaugurated the PHE sub-division office, newly upgraded Primary Health Centre and upgraded secondary school. He also inspected the Hr. Secondary school and JNV at Geku, Boys Hostel and Hr. Secondary School at Yingkiong, ME school at Simong and the Hr. Secondary school Maryang and interacted with the students and teaching staffs.

Addressing the public Bosiram Siram informed that the present govt. under the leadership of the Chief Minister Dorjee Khandu is emphasizing on the education sector.

An education policy is on anvil. The education policy is being drafted and soon legislation will be passed on it. The system will be streamlined and solid foundation will be laid so that frequent changes can not be made at the whims of some individuals.

Equal distribution of teachers in all schools will be taken care of. NCERT books and norms will be followed and there won’t be frequent change of book in future. Infrastructural development will be looked after. National Curriculum Framework (NCF) will be followed and vocational education will be given importance so that qualified people are employed or self employed. Continues and Comprehensive Education (CCE) where the students will be evaluated and graded will be followed from the next session and the class X (Ten) examination will be done away with. The teachers will have to be present in their posting places so that daily evaluation is done properly, he added.

He appealed to the teaching community to put in more efforts, sincerity and dedication in their noble profession so that the students have good and strong foundation. The dedication will create good citizens and build better society and a strong nation.

Activity based education should be imparted so that the children can easily understand. They should be morally and physically disciplined as the children get influenced by them. They should inspire the children by their mere presence, Siram said.

He also urged the students to be more sincere and disciplined and obey the teachers. They should be keen to learn and achieve their goal in life. They should equip themselves to face the challenges in life and compete with the world.

Replying to the memorandum submitted by the people he informed that posting of teachers will be done in the coming session. Auditorium, library, science labs, toilets etc. are of prime importance for educational institutions. So priority will be given to them. Renovation and extension of school buildings, hostels, security fencing will be taken up soon as proposal for them has been sent to the central govt. under Rastriya Madhayamik Siksha Abhiyan (RMSA) and are likely to be approved/ sanctioned soon.

Regarding the memorandum submitted to the minister requesting to name the Hr. Secondary Mayang in memory of Lt. Bakin Pertin a visionary leader from the area, the minister said, he supported the idea and will take up the matter with consultation with the local elected representatives and elders.

He was optimistic that planning and policies of the govt. will usher in a era of developments specially in the sectors like education, health, road connectivity.

The facilities provided by the govt. like the newly inaugurated PHE office, PHC and schools should be utilized and looked after well for the posterity of the people.

He informed that under the establishment of model colleges in educationally backward districts by the govt., 10 (Ten) colleges have been sanctioned and one of them will be established at Upper Siang. He exhorted the people to select a suitable and viable place for its establishment. He assured to work for betterment of the society and the state.

JK Panggeng appealed for a WRD sub-division at Katan Circle HQ. He informed that a bridge at Reglat over Yamne River which will be the lifeline of the area has been sanctioned. He appreciated the officers for their sincerity and dedication in their efforts to bring development in the area. He exhorted the people to go for large scale fish farming, for economic sustenance. He assured to cooperate and help the govt. for a better and bright future.

Alo Libang said his priority will be education, health and road connectivity. He appealed to the minister that any institution, when upgraded should be bagged by required infrastructure. The schools should impart quality education and mould the children in such a way that they become worthy citizen of the society, he added.

Duggoli Libang Chairperson ZP informed that a Prayer Shed will be provided at Yingkiong Hr. Secondary school. One Safe Drinking Water system to each secondary and Hr. Secondary schools in the district will also be provided.

Rajesh Panyang emphasized on each one teach one. He appealed to the local people avoid excessive consumption of alcohol. He assured all cooperation from District Administration for all development works. DIPRO

CS visits Chayangtajo, takes part in Nyokum celebration

ITANAGAR, Mar 2: State chief secretary(CS) Tabom Bam visited Chayangtajo area on 26th of this month to be part of Nyokum Yullo celebration.

While addressing the gathering Tabom Bam exhorted the people to celebrate Nyokum in a befitting manner. He reminded the gathering that Nyokum is an integral part of the culture of Nyishi community and hence every one should take part in it.

He told the gathering that he had come to Chayantajo by road to personally assess the actual situation at ground level and understand the problems being faced by the local people. Later in the evening a meeting was convened wherein prominent citizens of area including guest of honour and local MLA Karya Bagang was present.

The Deputy Commissioner of East Kameng Pige Ligu along with Superintendent of police and other departmental heads also accompanied the Chief Secretary during his tour.

Kameng fest on the anvil

ITANAGAR, Mar 2: Initiating the process for celebrating the first ever Kameng festival in line with other festivals of the state primarily with an objective of promoting tourism in the district, Deputy Commissioner Swati Sharma outlined on the modalities for the celebration slated to be held in the mid of April month. Kameng festival would be marked with cultural extravaganza, food festival, a star night and marathon race for the men, women and armed forces personnel.

An organizing committee consisting of people from all walks of life having experience in matters related to socio-cultural activities would be formed within this weekend besides the four elected legislators of the district as patrons and advisors, she added. DIPRO

‘Human needs education to become greater being’

WAKRO, Mar 02: India has a great history of achievements in the field of Science and Technology, said Sri Sri Swami Ishatmananda, Secretary cum Principal of the Rama Krishna Mission School, Narottamnagar while inaugurating the exhibition of low-cost teaching aids prepared by the Apnes of the Apna Vidya Bhavan and girls of the KGBV, Wakro on the National Science Day celebration here recently.

Inspiring the young learners to become good human beings, he said animals don’t require schooling to become animals while the human beings need to go school to become finer beings to help other human and living beings by cultivating and maintaining selflessness.

Appreciating the good performance of the Apna Vidya Bhavan and the KGBV, Wakro after closely interacting with the students during and after the exhibition program, Swami Ishatmananda made a special mention of the “Be Happy- Mauj Me Raho” motto by His Holiness Swami Anubhavananda saying that everyone is striving for happiness and only the one who has achieved the state of happiness by right living can serve the society selflessly and make others happy. Quoting Sri Sri Kulavadhuta Satpurananda the Chairman ASSET said that – “If god’s act is greater than human beings, the act is to be human. Thus Humanism is the greatest Dharma.” He said that such great ones like Swami Ishatmananda who selflessly serves the world are the real benefactors of humanity and life.

Swami Ishatmananda also informed Anugrah that the Ramakrishna Mission had organized a Two days Teacher’s Conference, the first of its kind in the entire North East India in collaboration with the Quality Council of India of the Govt. of India recently. The conference was attended by the Principals and teachers of many schools of the North East.

A team of ASSET and readers of VT-AWIC library network also visited the Tilangkyong Government Primary School to mark the celebration. Apne Apyala and Apne Amilu girls adopted by the Army and girls of the KGBV conducted rhyme, poem recitation and story telling sessions. Satyanarayanan Mundayoor took story telling session and assured Sondruk Chikro that support will be extended to improve the school in all possible ways.

The Chairman ASSET while addressing the children and members of the general public exhorted the students to maintain good health by personal cleanliness and maintaining the school and residential premises clean and litter free. DCC meet discusses development issues

ITANAGAR, Mar 2: MLA Likha Saaya suggested the DCC workers of Lower Subansiri to maintain party ideology and discipline of INC party. He was speaking at Lower Subansiri DCC executive body meeting yesterday.

While urging the party cadres to follow the vision of Rahul Gandhi, Saaya suggested them to cooperate with Govt officers in developmental activities. He has given assurance a sum of Rs 5 lakh for early construction of the DCC office at Hapoli and a computer set for 16th Yachuli block. The meeting discussed about INC party organizational matter and other development activities in Lower Subansiri district.

Later, the meeting condoled the tragic demise of AIYCC general secretary and in charge Arunachal Pradesh Mridul Gogoi, who died in a road accident in Jorhat, Assam. They also observed two minutes silence as mark of respect to the departed soul.

Eye screening camp

ITANAGAR, Mar 02: Arun-Dristi an eye issue base NGO conducted its maiden School Eye Screening Camp at Auxilum Girls Hostel of Don Bosco School, Jullang, Itanagar yesterday.

All together 133 girls students of the School and 25 villagers were screened and 33 of them were prescribed glass. All the students with eye problem were provided with free medicine.

Indo-Bhutanese film ‘Leh’ receives wide accolades

Itanagar, Mar 2: The Indo-Bhutanese movie 'Leh-the destiny' has won accolades and has been well-received by people from all walks of life.

The Monpa movie, with Namgey Tsering and Pema Yangkey in lead roles, has already broken all records in the entertainment world.

Directed by D K Thungon, a known face in the glamour world, has many films to his credit.

Thungon first directed the Arunachalee film 'Meri Zindagi' in year 1987 as a full-fledged director.

'Main Indian Hum Indian', casting a few Arunachalee talents a few years back, was one of such movies which was received well by the viewers.

NN Company, under the banner of Kremco production in collaboration with Bhutan Multimedia, owned by Wangchu a renowned Bhutanese film maker is all set to screen the movie in Bhutan and India.

The premier show of Leh was screened at Tawang on February 23 with renowned personalities of the district gracing the occasion.

The viewers praised the actors, director and the film crew for the marvellous piece of work.

''Maturity in making movies has been witnessed in this film and I really appreciate the actors, the camera crew, the direction and the screenplay for their effort.

''Our lads have now touched the hearts and taste of the common man,'' commented Pema Khandu, son of Chief Minister Dorjee Khandu who attended the premier show as the chief guest.

''I couldn’t make out the movie in first ten minutes but as soon as it went off I sat through every moment,'' commented Ngawang Sempa a social activist of the district.

Over all, the entire movie is fantastic and worth seeing, he added. UNI

Clarification

ROING, Mar 2: Apropos the news item published in this daily on Feb 1 under the caption “Poor power supply resented” followed by clarification made by the EE (E&M) Tezu, I, A K Paul EE Power Roing division further clarified that the bursting of DG set was in fact at Anelih (Ahi Valley) in 2007 last and the electrical department was not capable to repair it due to acute constraint of fund during that time, but the correspondent had mistakenly quoted Alinye village under the E & M’s Awapani power project.

Roing correspondent adds: In regard to ‘the Awapani power project lying defunct resulting in poor power supply in Alinye village for last several months’ was reported according to the written complaint furnished to the correspondent by the All Dibang Valley District Handicraft Welfare Society (ADVDHWS) in the form of press release that clearly mentioned two machine in the old power house were out of function and no. 2 machine was out of order in new power house at Alinye village under Awapani power project.

When the correspondent enquired about the actual situation of Awapani power Project at Alinye, the sources said that out of 3x50 KW one is running smoothly and two machines are out of function, at the same time the second phase 250 KW machine are somehow running drifting the voltage percentage at peak hour.

However, this correspondent clarified that the bursting of the DG set at Alinye was in fact at Anelih village. The bursting of DG set mentioned at Alinye was of course mistaken which is actually at Anelih (Ahi Valley) under the control of the power department. This correspondent got confused as the names of the two villages sounding similar during confirmation through telephonic talk. The unintentional mistake is deeply regretted.

NABARD sanctions TPC on tailoring at Ziro

ITANAGAR, Mar 2: In order to impart training to the local artisans and link it with production, NABARD has sanctioned a Training-cum-Production Centre on Tailoring (TPC) at Ziro in Lower Subansiri District.

The scheme has been sanctioned to a locally based agency, Arun Kutir Udyog Co-operative Society, Ziro which will be the implementing agency. The sanction is for construction of Work shed (Common Facility Centre), purchase of Tailoring Machines and for conducting training programmes. After construction of the work shed, the implementing agency will engage master trainers for conducting a series of training in tailoring to meet the demand for quality tailoring services.

Training-Cum-Production Centre will provide a comprehensive backward and forward linkage support, such as raw material supply, common facilities, quality control, marketing under common brand name etc.

It may be mentioned here that handloom weaving is a thriving activity in Ziro area and many artisans work in the sector for self-employment and wage employment. With the successful implementation of the TPC, quality tailoring services will be available at the doorstep of the artisans in the area.

The agency will constitute a Project Monitoring Committee consisting of Deputy Commissioner of the District, representatives of the implementing agency, DIC, Textile and Handicrafts, NABARD, Banks and experts in the activities selected for training/production to oversee the effective implementation of the project, according to an official release.

GM NHPC urges ITI trainees to excel

ROING, Mar 2: The Industrial Training Institute (ITI) of Roing gets a new lease of life after initiative being taken up by National Hydro Power Corporation (NHPC) under the up gradation programme assisted by World Bank. The corporate body has been aiding the ITI in every possible way to enhance the quality of the institute and bring out skilled manpower for better perspective of the state.

In a simple ceremony held on Feb 25 to felicitate the best trainees, A K Mishra General Manager (GM), NHPC, who was chief guest, gave assurance that every possible help would be offered to ensure job for all, if the trainees come out with best performance in their respective courses.

“Many of the private companies investing in state are looking for local talents to fill in various posts and with 28 companies in its process to tap the hydro power, the requirement of technical persons will be in demand. So, this institute could be one of the prime sources for the state to bring out more number of competent technical personnel,” said GM.

The GM further urged the instructors and principal of the institute to give their best in order to make this institute one of the top ITI’s of state.

A K Gupta Chief Engineer NHPC, who was the guest of the honour, urged the trainees to make best use of their time in the institute and technically equipped themselves. He also explained about number of programmes being sponsored by the NHPC for the smooth functioning of institute.

In his address Subhas Pertin, principal ITI Roing, told that teaching fraternity of institute have been working hard to make it one of the best and it is duty of the students to bring good name to institute by excelling in their respective courses. As many as 36 best trainees both from first and final year were felicitated with scholarship quarterly sponsored by the NHPC.

As part of its Social Corporate Responsibility (SCP) the NHPC limited also contributed 10 numbers of computers, library books and multi-media projector to the ITI. Among those who participated in the occasion were 170 trainees, instructors and NHPC officials.

Hage Batt, Director Industries, government of Arunachal, inaugurated the well furnished computer lab within the premises of the institute.

ITANAGAR, Mar 2: Nyokum Lapang Welfare Committee (NLWC) in a meeting held yesterday has resolved to conduct stray animal eviction drive, checking of selling wine on odd times within the sector.

It also decided to conduct social service from Zero point to Catholic Church and other link roads and appealed the Capital Magistrate to check sector road encroachment problems.

Two booked on forest fire

ITANAGAR: An official team comprising EAC/executive magistrate, Itanagar, forest range officer and police team with the cooperation of president and members of Lobi Committee, doused the forest fire in the Dariya Hills behind Lobi area yesterday. Two persons involved in forest firing were identified as Tagio Tabak and Moi Tare and they were booked for prosecution, said Capital administration in a release today.

Meanwhile, the capital administration informed that setting the forest on fire is totally banned and legal action shall be taken against the violators of the ban order of the Govt.

Recognition to JN College

ITANAGAR: Jawaharlal Nehru College, Pasighat has been chosen by the University Grants Commission as one of the 149 colleges in the country under the scheme “Colleges With Potential For Excellence”.

Rajiv Gandhi University had strongly recommended the college for selection under this scheme. Incidentally this is the first time, a college in Arunachal Pradesh affiliated to Rajiv Gandhi University has been accorded such a recognition, according to a University release.
